The new Subud historical society is springing into life

By Garret Thomson and Matthew Clark
As reported in May, the Society was approved as a partnership between the World Subud Association and the Guerrand-Hermes Foundation for Peace (GHFP), a UK charity founded and operated by Subud members. The Society’s mission is to interpret and publish the histories of Subud—its Founder, the Subud organization, our community and members. The Society will work in collaboration with WSA and National Archives, whose complementary mission is to collect, preserve and manage archival materials.
The Society is inspired by and modelled on the estimated 50,000-75,000 historical organizations and societies created by churches (Catholic, Jewish, Mormon,) charities (Red Cross, Freemasons), and geopolitical entities (USA, Africa, London, New York). You may find a Historical Society in your own home country, city or town.
The Board of Trustees appointed at the Society’s inaugural meeting includes Sharif Horthy (GHFP Chair), Rifka Several (WSA Chair), Garrett Thomson (GHFP CEO), Humphrey Williams (WSA Archives Subcommittee Chair), Andrew Holloway (GHFP Trustee) and Matthew Clark (Co-creator, Amani Archives, SUSA Archives Vice Chair). Garrett will serve as Chairman.
The Society’s Executive Committee will initially include Matthew, Garrett, and Lucas Boladian. Matthew will serve as Executive Director and Lucas as Treasurer.
Initial projects are still in early stages but are expected to include publications such as the Memories of Bapak and spotlights on specific countries of particular interest.
