WSC May 16, 2026 Council recap
By Rifka Several
Hello, Subud Sisters and Brothers,
At the start of our meeting Sebastian Wild (of Subud Youth International Association) announced a fundraiser to bring younger members to the November 2026 Gathering of the Americas in Chile. To donate or apply for funding, please go to these links:

The Mhd Subuh Foundation audited 2025 financial accounts, already approved by the MSF board, were accepted by the Council.
A draft agenda for the July in person Council meeting in Rungan Sari - still “under construction” - was presented. Input from the International Helpers has already been incorporated. Note that there will be latihan and testing every morning, along with a short regrouping meeting. This meeting will allow for more flexibility in the business topics, and there is space in the agenda for arising issues.
WSA and ISC are working with local Subud organizations for two special events:
- 50th anniversary of YUM (Yayasan Usaha Mulia) Susila Dharma project
- combined anniversaries of Yayasan Mhd Subuh (25 years) and the founding of the city of Palanka Raya (69 years)
There will be a Dyak traditional ceremony and other cultural events. On one day we are joining with the Rungan Sari Subud group and will have presentations showcasing “Subud in the World” from WSA, MSF, SICA, SDIA, and other Subud organizations. The agenda will be revisited at the June Council meeting.
Rungan Sari meeting updates from ISC:

There are registrations from 52 people already, and local members are welcome to drop in. Sessions will be videotaped and distributed on YouTube for remote attendees.
2027 in person Council meeting:
ISC sent a letter to the zones to distribute to countries to see who might host next year’s meeting. The host country will be discussed and tested in Rungan Sari.
International Helper sharing:
They met together in Spain and distributed their report which will be discussed in July. The overall theme emerged as “feeling oneness.” This theme will be part of the kejiwaan program for the July Council meeting. From Susanna Dayne, “when issues arose, we needed to look inside and always to be aware of the latihan. Nafsu can disrupt Subud work.”
We reserved time for the zones to share informally:
Zone 3, Mahrus Harnardi: they have just had their meeting also in Spain. It was larger than last year with 70 attendees. The zone wings are very active, especially SES (Subud Enterprise Services). The meeting was a strong blend of kejiwaan and organizational working together.
Zone 8, Ricardo Alvares: the Colombia national congress was in April. He reminds us that Subud members in the Caribbean are in a very difficult economic situation, and that Susila Dharma Canada is coordinating emergency support. The International Helpers are planning a visit, however, with repeated testing it seems not the right time to do this.
Zone 5, Sharif Quiblier: it is very quiet in the zone countries. The zoom calls are open to anyone who wants to join. It was thought that Malawi would host a zone meeting, but testing showed Cape Town or perhaps Johannesburg would be the host.
Zone 4, Harissa Deligianni: their zone meeting will be in Budapest, Hungary in October. The zone team works closely together with monthly zoom meetings and latihans with their Kejiwaan Councilors and area 2 International Helpers. The Subud Greece holiday will be the end of August.
Zones 1 & 2, Sandra Egege: She presented at the Australian and Indonesian Congresses and found out that members are not very aware of the work of the zones. Their first zone in person meeting was in Jakarta, in January and was very successful in terms of active participation and realizing how important meeting together can be. There are many different languages, so English is used in meetings. WhatsApp is the main form of communication with members, and there has to be many different language translations.
WSA Safeguarding Code of Conduct:
Farah reports that 20 people have signed already. Yosef will resend the document.
The next WSA Council meeting is June 20 (check your time zones). At this meeting, there will be space in the agenda for the affiliates and subcommittees to share informally.
On a personal note, Rashidah Pope has been helping me with an informal Subud archival study, and I’ll share an excerpt that is staying with me:
STATEMENT BY PAK SUBUH TO A DUTCH JOURNALIST 1958
From the Subud Chronicle Vol 1 No 4 April 1958
“The spiritual way of Subud towards true worship of God is through preparation for receiving an inner contact. Once we are able to quieten and stop the activities of mind and imagination and the passions of the heart, this contact will continue to work by itself and as a result our own soul will progressively purify our nature. The instrument man has for ordinary thinking is inadequate for understanding true worship; the instrument for this is seated within the soul of Man, and each individual receives and develops his own instrument according to his own possibilities and nature. What is received then grows spontaneously, nourished by the properties already present in the soul: this is not the action of one person on another – it is something beyond any human influence. It dwells within one’s own true self and there it faces the power of God.”
With my love to all, Rifka
