Overview of October World Subud Council Meeting
By Rifka Several
The Council met over two days, first a kejiwaan day which started with a video talk by Bapak (83 LON 8) followed by latihan and testing such questions as “how can I perform my role with courage?”
The meeting began with reports from affiliates (MSF, SICA, SDIA) and subcommittees (SYAI, SIHA and SES) and we can see how active these are… which resulted in a long meeting, but we learned a lot about what is going on in the “Subud world.”
Here is a brief overview of the council meeting:
Fatima Council meeting minutes: these will be available soon.
Kalimantan World Congress delegate resolutions: the board, council and ISC have addressed and approved all but the following resolutions, which are in progress:
- WSA Constitution and Bylaw Review working group: chaired by Lucian Parshall; they will start meeting soon
- SESI Items: joint projects with SDIA and SICA are in progress
- Linking the world congress location with the location of the International Subud Committee office: this needs further discussion
- Delegate proposal form: a working group chaired by Antony Tibbs has developed a form which will be presented to the council
- Domicile of WSA incorporation: ISC continues to work on this, in conjunction with other Subud entities
2026 WSC in person meeting: Arifin presented the Subud Chile Americas Gathering proposal; after discussion, this seemed to be an important event that the council meeting didn’t fit into. ISC will look into other possible locations.
Year to date financial report: WSA treasurer Marzuki Muhammad presented the report and projections for the 2026 WSA budget. Our income is actually higher than projected, thanks largely to individual donations. Member countries able to contribute are sincerely thanked; most of the budget goes toward international travel and the work of the archives so this support is very much needed.
2028 World Congress updates from Hamid DaSilva: there is a new proposal to use the Sanctuary congress center for plenary meetings, entertainment, delegate sessions, and affiliate, subcommittee and other workshops and presentations. The latihan, personal testing and other kejiwaan activities would move to the SDivine hotel property, with modular buildings set up on their available land. Hamid’s early discussions with Sanctuary personnel are in favor of this revision.
Team news: ISC and WSA chairs, IH and WCOT initial team members will hold an in-person meeting late November in Fatima for testing and development of the congress business plan.
Safeguarding: working group chair Farah Czwiertnia presented the safeguarding poster for Subud events and properties. They have been meeting regularly and are now working on reporting forms. A team for receiving these forms and addressing the complaints is forming.
Follow up on consensus guidelines: Hannah deRoo noted that groups need guidance to understand and implement these guidelines. Does WSA have a role in providing assistance? This needs further discussion.
Discussion on the roles of the WSA board and council: this deserves a full discussion and will be on the next meeting agenda as the key topic.
Thank you to all participants for your thoughtful input, and observers for your interest in WSA!
