At World Congresses it has been agreed that members need to know more about Subud Houses to help groups acquire, maintain and manage their Latihan premises. You may read directives from the 2005 World Congress on houses and a report from the latihan premises workshops during the 2010 World Congress.

Subud Houses may be rented or owned, and whilst their primary purpose is as a place to do the Latihan, they may also be used for other purposes. These include social activities by the group, overnight accommodation for visitors, and as a business enterprise.

Some groups are lucky enough to own exceptional premises, others meet in each other's homes and dream of being able to buy their own Subud House. For each group, acquiring a House has been a major adventure, with many lessons being learnt, providing inspiration and valuable insights for other groups.

Some key elements of Subud Houses seem to be that they are:

      •  Available - always available when needed for Latihan
      •  Spacious - provide sufficient space and facilities, and have the possibility of simultaneous Latihans
      •  Social - encourage group social life and interaction
      •  Sustainable - are well managed and include an enterprise element, so that they are self sufficient
      •  Communicative - encourage communication with the local community, including presenting Subud in a positive light
      •  Accessible - reasonably easy for members to get to by public transport
      •  Character - calm and full of peace and love

LATIHAN PREMISE QUESTIONNAIRE

Here you may find the WSA latihan facility questionnaire in English and Spanish. This is questionnaire is for all groups, whether they rent, own or do latihan in members' homes. Santa Raymond, WSA Coordinator for Housting Matters, has been collating the results so that we may more completely understand what the needs are and what the membership would like. We invite all groups to participate. Just fill in the questionnaire and send it Santa, as shown on the form.
